Site updates

Two basically unrelated updates. I have been cleaning house. Literally: because I’m going on leave starting July 1. I will be visiting at Clare Hall, Cambridge, and working on my book on genre fiction. I’ll return to my Rutgers teaching in the spring.

Also, metaphorically. I recently read Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s memoir Dreams in a Time of War (reading note on bookwyrm) and decided to update some of my annotations to his novel Petals of Blood with some information from the autobiography. Having done this, I became annoyed that my website’s headline font lacked the two vowels with diacritics in Ngũgĩ’s name. In order to fix this, I could have just changed the font, but instead I made the completely rational decision to update the whole website, switching to a new underlying Hugo theme. It’s not a huge change, but possibly there will be glitches here and there. I regret to say that the change in the picture of me showing evidence of aging is not due to a software defect.

A site update

I’ve updated this site with a minor redesign. I switched to using Hugo to generate the site. Hugo’s speed advantage over Jekyll was a big draw, despite its tragically disorganized documentation and some frustrating minor limitations. I’ve tried to preserve all the old links, except for some reorganizing in the blog-post categories; all the posts are still there, but I eliminated some redundant categories, and category listings themselves have moved. I have also updated my page on LaTeX and digital documents with extra remarks on markdown and R markdown. The page is no longer headed “Typography or death!” though I continue to stand by that position.

Site update

After a satisfying experience building my spring 2012 course site using jekyll, I’ve converted this site over to jekyll too. I took the opportunity to make some minor changes and updates to the site content here and there. Please contact me if you find problems on the site.

TeX Updates and Side Blog

I made some updates to my LaTeX page. Then I realized I had so many notes on the subject that I decided to start a little side blog on the subject of TeX and digital document preparation in the humanities. I’ll add entries there occasionally as I make discoveries and encounter problems of a technological kind.

Update, November 2012. I have migrated the posts from this blog onto this site. You can view them in the page of all blog posts tagged “tex”.
